A Case of Corrosive Esophagus Protruded into the Trachea after Lye Ingestion

Abstract
Rare is the formation of tracheo -or broncho-esophageal fistula in acute lye burn of the esophagus.
Experienced a case that the necrotized esophagus was expelled out the tracheostoma through broncho-esophageal fistula after lye ingestion. A 23 y/o woman swallowed lye crystals for the suicidal attempt, and 7 days later breathing difficulty and profuse secretion developed suddenly. Emergency tracheostomy was done, and yet not so improved. The bronchoscope was introduced through the tracheostoma to notice the dark colored corrosive tissue in the trachea and to notice a fistula on the posterior wall of the left main bronchus about 1 cm apart from the carina. By suction and coughing an about 14 cm long tubular soft tissue was removed with the bronchoscope.
Histopathologic examination confirmed it necrotic esophageal tissue.
